A convenient way to buy children’s shoes

Kids feet continue to grow, and at a rapid pace.  Until now the need for buying new shoes has necessitated me trawling the busy shops with them, battling with other stressed out parents and screaming kids, to get shoes that fit.  I get a headache just thinking about it.  As I’ve grown up wearing Clarks and have been relatively pleased with their shoes both for me and the kids – I thought I’d give their Clarks Measure and Fit at Home option a go.  Now there is no turning back.

Clarks sell two measuring devices (gauge as they like to call them).

A Toddler Gauge:  Fits UK infant size 2 up to UK infant size 9.5 – £6.00*

A Junior Gauge:  Fits UK infant size 10 up to a UK adult size 10 (so it even works for me!) – £8.00*

The gauge takes a few days to arrive.

You are given a little easy to follow booklet on how to measure feet (it did help that I was a Saturday girl at Lilly & Skinners when I was at school although I am sure most people can follow the booklet).

Measure the length and the width and then use the online converter.

This is the converter for the Junior gauge:  http://www.clarks.co.uk/sizecalculator

The only slightly irritating bit is that you have to then go to the website to convert the centimetres to the Clarks sizing.  However if you want to buy shoes online you’re going to go to the website regardless.

You can then easily shop for shoes based upon the size – length and width fitting and search by ‘sale’ too.  That’s the best bit – they often have shoes marked down half price and I tend to always go for those.  After all they don’t wear them for long, and wear them practically to death in the interim.

The shoes arrive and your child tries them on.

I ordered four pairs – two each – school shoes and trainers (yes, I’d held out quite a while).  All four pairs were on sale.  Three fitted perfectly.  One pair – the trainers – were too tight across the front.  This is where I became really impressed with this service.

I’m sure you can post them back (they send you the returns form) however I chose to drive up to the local store during the week when nobody but I was in the store.  It was heavenly quiet.  They told me which options I had and offered me the same shoe yet three sizes wider.  Perfect.  Even without a receipt they were able to exchange the shoes for the wider fitting even though they didn’t have that particular pair in stock.

“Don’t worry, we’ll get it posted out to you free of charge and you’ll get in the next few days”

Plus the shoes had been discounted another £4 so I got a receipt for proof of purchase and £4 credit.

The new trainers did arrive within three days and they fitted just fine – one happy little girl.

From now on, Clarks Measure and Fit at Home service – you are getting my business!

Thank you!
